Society of Facade Engineering

Architects are designing facades with bigger partitions, less frames, better performances, new materials and the geometry is more complex. The market has demanded the role of the Facade Engineer as a key position during the process of construction.

In one of my previous posts, I went through the skills that a facade engineer should have. Now, the current post is about the Society of Facade Engineering, founded to bring together a body of professionals in facades. It acts as qualifying body for competency in the facade engineering profession.

Prior to be accepted as member, it is a requisite to substantiate your skills, experience and contribution in the facade industry.  Therefore, it is an international accreditation that proves skills and competency worldwide.

Then again, the Society organizes several lectures, visits and seminars. It is a good chance to discuss about facades, because in some cases is more than a professional topic among colleagues, it is a compelling matter to discuss wherever you are.

Our Society define the facade engineering as follows:

Facade engineering is the art of resolving aesthetic, environmental and structural issues to achieve the enclosure of habitable space.”

This means that our role is clearly to cooperate properly in the design, manufacture and construction of facades that Architects and Clients can be proud of and be assured that the facade performs to specification.

I would define this as a fascinating and challenging role.
